Margate Kitten Killer

"Kittens killed by Mayor....shock !...horror !"

There's a rumour going round that the esteemed Mayor Of Margate Ted Watt-Ruffell is being investigated by the RSPCA for allegedly killing kittens.

Starving the poor new born little balls of fluff to death in fact, how disgraceful this would be if found to be true.

LOCAL radio ?

Listening to our two local radio stations as I drive round the County, I was struck by a couple of points..

1) Invicta has started to not even mention "Invicta" in it's jingles on it's wind down to become Heart fm. And listeners wanting to text in now have to put the word "Kent" in front of any text message so that it finds it's way through the great corporate computer system back to the studios in Whitstable. But of course, only limited programming will now be broadcast from there, rest will be the same as every other Heart station in the nation.

2) Why does any local business advertise on KMfm ? In their wisdom the are running a promotion called KMFK Cashback which is specifically designed to take business away from local shops and companies and make them spend their money online. Listeners earn money by making their purchase via the KMfm site instead of in bricks and motor stores. Plus I'm guessing but the KM will take a little cut from the online retailers too in commission.

Pfizer looking for a way out?

Rumour has it that a high level meeting was held at Pfizer in Sandwich last week and one of the subjects was the question " How much would it cost in redundancy payments to shut the entire complex right now due to the global credit crunch?"
The study was conducted apparently with the answer given as £150 million.

With turnover in 2007 of around $47 billion, they can afford to cut loose if they want. Now that would see local unemployment rise faster than a d*ck on Viagra!

Rates being paid?

Question.... With the new shops built at Westwood Cross next to the new Toy Shop, I trust that the owners are paying the appropriate rates to TDC on those empty properties? I presume half rates whilst unoccupied is the norm, anyone know if that's the case, or are they getting special dispensation unlike the rest of property owners on the Island?

KCC not negligent?

According to reporting at www.yourthanet.co.uk .....

"A report that accused Kent County Council of "negligently" investing taxpayers' money into Icelandic banks is to be reworded.KCC had threatened to sue the Audit Commission for the use of the word in its Risk and Return document, which investigated local authorities and their deposits in Icelandic banks.

But chief executive Peter Gilroy revealed during today's full council meeting that the document would be amended.

He said: "We have been, and are still, in negotiation with the Audit Commission about its report."We are encouraged by the tone of these negotiations and by the fact the commission has proposed to issue amendments to the report, publishing and circulating them accordingly. It would remove the word negligent from paragraph 45 and table three of the report."

So...what words could the taxpayers expect to see substituted in the report....

Stupid?

Incompetent?

...answers on a postcard to the Audit Commission.

Well worth a look

Found a couple of gems yesterday just outside the Thanet boundaries, and would encourage others to visit.

1) The Fowlmead Country Park on the Deal road just past Worth. It's still being built, covering up the old Betteshanger slag heaps, but has miles of cycle/walking tracks, a BMX type track with bumps and humps to bring out the kid inside you. There's tarmac roadways as well which I gather are used for cycling competitions.

The flora is obviously still getting established as it only opened 2 years ago, but it's a lovely quiet oasis to wander round. There's bike hire with helmets at £ 2.50 an hour, and parking for the park is £1.

2) The Rare Species Conservation Centre on the roundabout on the A256 Dover road. Next to what I always thought was just a pet shop, this centre has a diverse collection of animals and birds. Some I have never seen in my life before.

Enjoy!

Planes above

Any ideas what that plane was doing going round, and round, and round, yesterday early afternoon above Manston? It wasn't doing 'bumps and circuits' as no attempt was made to land. Was it trying to use up fuel for a dodgy landing ?

No longer here !

As you enter our fair Isle at the St Nicholas roundabout, amongst the forest of direction signs, there is still a huge brown tourist sign directing drivers to the 'Dreamland Amusement Park'.

Surely someone in KCC or TDC Highways departments should get it taken down, or at least covered up.

There's also one for the Turner Visitor Centre, is that the crap, sorry, art, in the old M&S building I wonder, or the seafront building site ?

Rather gives a false impression about whats available in Thanet.

Ramsgate feature spoilt

I drove up the seafront in Ramsgate over the weekend past the Nat West Bank, sorry, Pizza Express on the corner, and could not believe that some over officious bungling Health & Safety nerd has seen fit to spoil the waterfall with a large white, yellow, and black warning notice on poles.

I didn't stop to read it, perhaps someone can fill out the details, but probably says something like... " Danger ...This waterfall may contain water"
